Tieraona Low Dog, M.D.
Tieraona Low Dog, M.D.'s interest in natural medicine was sparked more than 50 years ago by her grandmother Jo. Spending countless days by the lakes and in the prairies and forests camping and learning to identify and use plants for medicine, she felt called to be an herbwyfe at a young age. She would go on to study and practice herbal medicine, midwifery, massage therapy, and martial arts before earning her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Her unique background set her apart from most conventionally trained physicians. Patients sought her out for her broader way of viewing health and healing. President Bill Clinton and the National Institutes of Health appointed her to advisory councils. Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D. asked her to run the Fellowship training program for doctors and nurse practitioners at the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. She was a founding member of the American Board of Integrative Medicine and the Academy for Women's Health. A prolific scholar, Dr. Low Dog has published more than 40 articles in medical/science journals and written 22 chapters for medical textbooks. She has worked with many companies, helping them to craft safer, innovative, and effective products in the natural products space. She has been honored with many awards from academia, public health, and industry throughout her 40-year career.
Tieraona brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience to all that she does, but it is her rare ability to take complex scientific and medical information and make it highly accessible to the everyday person that makes her such a trusted friend and resource to so many. With her warm and down-to-earth style, Tieraona (tier-oh-nay) has been invited to speak at more than 600 conferences, reaching more than 50,000 people every year with her message of natural living, compassionate care, and deep ecology. She has authored five books, including three with National Geographic; Fortify Your Life, Healthy at Home, and Life is Your Best Medicine. Tieraona is very active with her growing online Facebook community of 100k+ highly engaged users.
Tieraona teaches natural medicine at her Medicine Lodge Ranch, offering both digital and in-person workshops at her home in the beautiful mountains outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. An avid gardener, she grows more than 40 medicinal herbs, as well as veggies and native plants. Tieraona spends her free time hiking with her husband and beloved Shepherds, riding her horses, and lovingly tending to the chickens.
